May in Indy – Porch Party Edition
- May 6

The weather is warming up and the Indy Mini already kicked us off. It's May in Indianapolis. Can you smell the tires? May here isn't just a month. It's a whole season. Porch Parties are one of the best parts of it, neighbors and race fans turning their porches, balconies, garages, and backyard spaces into a celebration of the Indianapolis 500. IMS even runs an official Porch Party decorating contest. You can register here: https://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/porching
I put together a mood board for the occasion. Shop it below. Happy Racing! 🏁

IMS Striped Glass Pitcher — Pair it with cold lemonade (or your favorite beer). Grab yours directly from the IMS!
Urban Outfitters Yellow Striped Stemless Wine Glass — The stripe picks up the pillow pattern and ties it together.
Pottery Barn Malibu Metal Console Table — The metal finish picks up the sofa legs and keeps the palette cohesive. Quiet work, done well.
Crate and Barrel Galleria Metal Outdoor Curved Sofa – I love the curve of this sofa. It reminded me of the oval speedway. I love the black lining. You can add multiple pieces to create a larger sitting area.
Maeve by Anthropologie Striped Ruffle Indoor/Outdoor Pillow — The thick stripes honor the IMS flags. The ruffled trim adds texture without adding another pattern. Love this pop of color!
Pottery Barn St. Tropez 8' Round Outdoor Umbrella — The thin ticking stripes complement the sofa's black lining without competing.
MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check Pedestal Vase — The pedestal silhouette reminded me of the Borg-Warner Trophy the moment I found it. The Courtly Check ties into the season of May well. Just add fresh flowers!
Ruggable Salerno Soft Black Re-Jute Rug — The harlequin pattern reads as a checkered flag stretched across the ground. Indoor/outdoor rated, so it can actually live on a porch without worry.
Stomping Ground "Welcome Race Fans" Vintage Garden Flag — A classic. Tuck it into your planters or stake it by the door. Traditional for a reason.
Black and White Checkered Flag Banner — You cannot do an Indianapolis porch party without one. Non-negotiable.
String Lights — Hang them with a steel wire to keep them taut and weighed down.
Crate and Barrel Ophelia Planter — The textured concrete finish reminded me of IMS asphalt. Fill it with peonies, Indiana's state flower, and the whole space comes alive.
Anthropologie Weathering Steel Demi Fire Pit — The half circle mirrors the curved sofa. Together, they create a full conversation circle. That's the whole point of a porch party.
